Cross Training

Cross-Training? Step UP Bike is better than an Elliptical!

As defined by Wiki, Cross-training  is athletic training in sports other than the athlete’s usual sport. The goal is improving overall performance. It takes advantage of the particular effectiveness of one training method to negate the shortcomings of another.  In general sports and fitness, Cross-training involves combining exercises to work various parts of the body. Often one particular activity works certain muscle groups, but not others; cross-training aims to eliminate this imbalance.

Wiki also defines a Cross-trainer as an elliptical trainer (also called an X-trainer), a stationary exercise machine used to simulate stair climbing, walking, or running without causing excessive pressure to the joints, hence decreasing the risk of impact injuries. For this reason, people with some injuries can use an elliptical to stay fit, as the low impact affects them little. Elliptical trainers offer a non-impact cardiovascular workout that can vary from light to high intensity based on the speed of the exercise and the resistance preference set by the user.

Most elliptical trainers work the user’s upper and lower body (although some models do not have moving upper body components). Though elliptical trainers are considered to be minimal-impact, they are an example of a weight-bearing form of exercise.  They can be self-powered by user-generated motion or need to be plugged in for adjustment of motion and/or for supplying their electronic consoles and resistance systems.

WE are putting a “spin” on these definitions and think Wiki needs to update their definitions.  The Step UP Bike has a patented design that delivers a perfect 38% angle stepping motion to simulate the action of climbing stairs.  By stepping UP, you are lifting your body weight while propelling the bike forward.  Because there is no seat, you are experiencing a lower body and upper body workout.  Riding the Step UP Bike you experience NO excessive pressure to the joints, hence decreasing the risk of impact injuries.  We can say with confidence; the Step UP Bike is a “NO IMPACT” exercise bike.  As it allows you to keep your heels in contact with the pedals at all times which reduces muscle and tendon stress.  You can also adjust the handle bars lower and lean forward giving you the ability for a high performance ride using higher gears on our Step UP Performance model.  Like an elliptical, the stepping motion is natural and fluid and exercisers have a lower Relative Perceived Exertion (RPE).  However, there are several differences and benefits of the Step UP bike over an elliptical.  We listed a few.

  • Step UP Bike is mobile designed for indoor and outdoor use. You can ride it in your neighborhood, any park, beach or trail you wish to ride.
  • If riding outside, your body is naturally being cooled down from the breeze when riding.
  • The stepping stride can be short or long accommodating riders 48” tall to 6’8” tall.
  • Step UP Bike allows you to coast with both feet together unlike a constant scissor stance of an elliptical or other elliptical bike competitors. This is far more comfortable and delivers ergonomically correct body positioning.
  • You can ride inside on the Step UP cradle, thus becoming your indoor exercise machine as well as your outdoor exercise bike.
  • Step UP Electric, can be used for exercise and commuting to and from work or to the local grocery store.
  • Since the Step UP Bike may also be used for commuting, it can save you money on gas, insurance, parking fees. An elliptical can’t do that.
